Choosing your flight wisely may not seem like it but can make a night and day difference in your journey. Firstly, it can save you money by allowing you to compare prices and find the most cost-effective option. Secondly, it can give you more flexibility and convenience by allowing you to choose a flight that fits your schedule and preferences. This can include choosing a flight with a shorter layover or one that departs and arrives at a more convenient time

These are the things that you MUST consider before booking your flight! Save some money! Be Safe!

  1. When to reach destination: ATLEAST 1 week before your classes start.

  2. When to book

    1. 3 months before departure date.

    2. Before or After PPR: PPR currently is taking 3 months on average (Fall 2022). If you can get your PPR ATLEAST 15-20 days before departure date then you may choose to book air ticket before PPR. (I filed my visa on April 19 and was sure that my PPR will come before July, it came on August 3, my flight is booked for Aug 26).

  3. Baggage Tips

    1. I find 2 x 23kg checked-in bags + 12 kg cabin luggage plenty!

    2. DON'T put anything in your bag that a stranger gives you to help them out because of space constraints!

    3. Avoid Fabric bags which have easy access pockets, you don't want anyone to slip anything in your bag.

    4. Buy TSA approved locks for your bags.

    5. Make sure your baggage is checked-in. i.e. you'll directly receive it on your final airport! Avoid carrying luggage on layover airports.

  4. Layover and Immigration requirements:

    1. Choose a layover point which does not require a transit visa.

    2. At least 3 hours (2:45 works) for comfortable layover.

    3. At the Point of Entry to Canada (mostly YYT and YUL) give yourself 4 to 5 hours minimum to complete immigration!

    4. Have a file ready will all your original documents needed for immigration.

  5. Tickets tips

    1. There will be at least 1 student offer available when you want to fly. Research. Book directly from the air carrier site that is providing the student offer.

    2. Before booking, check your baggage, layover and route of flight and if you need a transit visa.

    3. Make sure your ticket is at least postpone-able. Better if it provides cancellation.

    4. Spending extra is better than having more problems along the way!

    5. Direct flights are expensive, also 18 hours of flying is really uncomfortable!

    6. You may choose to book through an agency if you want to save yourself some headache.
